If your taste in movies runs towards kung-fu, giant monsters, chainsaw murders and other weird cinematic shit – there is no better festival on earth than Fantastic Fest. Fantastic Fest bills itself as a “film festival with the boring parts cut out.” Based on my experience at the first few years of the fest, I would have to say that is dead-on accurate.
Unfortunately, Fantastic Fest badges are already sold out. You can still buy tickets for individual screenings, but you will miss out on all the awesome parties. Start planning ahead for next hear. But don’t feel totally bummed, because this year Fantastic Fest is branching out and bringing some of its greatness to your computer screen.
Fantastic Fest Online is a free online mini-fest presented in conjunction with with B-Side and AMD. The on-line Festival will bring 5 features and 5 short films to your computer screen. The films will be streaming online from September 14-20. It won’t be the same as watching them on the big-screen with a packed house of genre-crazed film fans, but it will at least give everybody an opportunity to get a little taste of Fantastic Fest.
Tim League, direcot of Fantastic Fest and co-founder of the Alamo Drafthouse: “I am personally very excited to be working with these 10 filmmakers, Bside and AMD to provide this unique new experience for genre film enthusiasts across the globe. Utilizing technology to provide simple and free access to great new film talent, Fantastic Fest Online may very well be paving the way to redefining what the term ‘film festival’ means in the future.”
