Robert Rodriguez signs 10 year lease
If there was any doubt that Robert Rodriguez was committed to filmmaking in Austin, this news should erase it. Rodriguez’ Troublemaker Studios has signed a 10-year lease for space at what was once Robert Mueller Airport.
The new Troublemaker Studios facilities consist of two hangers, an outdoor paved area and several offices and storage areas. One cool aspect of this arrangement is that it will generate an estimated $2.2 million for the Permanent School Fund.
From Austin Business Journal:
“Robert Rodriguez has a new landlord — and it’s the school children of Texas,” says Jerry Patterson, Commissioner of the Texas General Land Office and chairman of the School Land Board. “This agreement earns a solid return for the state’s Permanent School Fund and is yet another example of the innovative ways the Land Office is making money for public schools.”
Troublemaker Studios is also pleased with the deal.
“We at Troublemaker are so proud of our connection to this community,” says Elizabeth Avellan, co-owner of Troublemaker Studios. “I’m overjoyed that we have found a way to provide a steady contribution to the education of the children of our state.”
