News on Robert Rodriguez’ Grindhouse

by admin on April 6, 2006

Some interesting news is coming together regarding Robert Rodriguez’ segment of Grindhouse. (This is the movie he’s co-directing with his pal Quentin Tarantino). According to my pals at Waterloo Video, Josh Brolin was indeed in town and in their very store moments before I arrived last weekend. But aside from my close brush with a semi-celebrity sighting, the Chronicle reports that in addition to Brolin, some other notable names will be making appearences in Rodriguez’s zombie-focused segment which is titled Planet Terror. Apparently, one of the stars is none other than special effects guru Tom Savini, who got a little loose-lipped on his blog…

In a posting later deleted from his Web site, Savini described arriving on set, watching a scene between Josh Brolin (thus explaining recent sightings of Mrs. Brolin, aka Diane Lane, in Austin) and Marley Shelton (Sin City), then inspecting piles of dead bodies and severed heads. No confirmation from the supremely secretive Rodriguez camp, which is busy filming in the witching hours into May.

Tarantino will be in town later this month for his BEST OF QT FEST, which adds credence to rumors that shooting on his segment will begin around that time. We’ll do our best to keep you posted, but these guys are like George Lucas when it comes to keeping secrets.
