AMD proceeds with Barton Springs plans

This is interesting news on the day that Austin is named the 2nd greenest city in the U.S, but Save Our Springs‘ request for a temporary injunction against AMD was denied today. In case you haven’t been paying attention, AMD is planning to build a 58-acre corporate campus in an environmentally sensitive area of SW Austin (Southwest Parkway and William Cannon Drive). The judge rejected the temporary injunction and ordered a 30-day mediation period.
Following the ruling, Bill Bunch, executive director of Save Our Springs said:
We will engage the mediation process on the specific AMD site. We will also focus our energy and resources on galvanizing the Austin community to speak out and stand up for protection of Barton Springs from the satellite downtown planned by Stratus Properties, of which AMD would be the first piece and a catalyst for the rest.
If you’re interested in this issue and would like more information, there’s a new documentary called Driving Sprawl that will be screening tomorrow night at Mother Egans (15 W. 6th Street, 8:30 P.M., Free).
